Job Insight: Logistics Expert & Key Account Manager at Smartlane

We asked Sebastian, Logistics Expert & Key Account Manager at Smartlane about his daily work routine and what makes Smartlane special for him.

What makes your job special?

Sebastian: For me, it’s this unique combination of freight forwarding/logistics, IT and sales. The logistics industry, as one of the largest sectors of the economy, has an incredible number of facets and is characterized by a high use of resources. With our software, we can support logistics companies in conserving resources or using them more efficiently in order to remain competitive in the future and thus also make a contribution to sustainability. 

What does your day-to-day work as a “Logistics Expert & Key Account Manager” look like?

Sebastian: The main part of my job is to accompany our customers from the preparation of parallel operation with our solution to the complete go-live and also afterwards. In doing so, I listen to them, take requirements and try to understand their problems in detail in order to look for the best solution together with them, the Smartlanians from our Customer Solutions and Product Management teams. 

What human qualities do you need to have for your job?

Sebastian: If you are not afraid of change, like to communicate with customers as well as with your colleagues, are empathetic, go through the world with open eyes and ears and want to get better every day, this is the job for you! 

How was your start at Smartlane?

Sebastian: The start was great and I quickly “arrived”. In the beginning, I was in the office a lot and was able to meet many of my new colleagues in person. At the same time, onboarding sessions were held in which the various areas at Smartlane were introduced to me by their representatives. I had many questions for my new colleagues in the beginning, and my new colleagues for me as well. A great exchange ensured, which still takes place today and hopefully never ends.

How can work and family be combined at Smartlane? (e.g. flexible working hours and working models,…)

Sebastian: Besides the possibility to work hybrid, a basic flexibility regarding working hours was also very important for me. My daily routine consists of visits to customers, meetings in the office and preparations for appointments, but of course also of private errands (e.g. doctor’s appointments, official business, childcare, etc.). At Smartlane, I can reconcile all of these things without friction or great stress.
