An important part of our research team is Maximiliane, who as a “Research Engineer” makes an essential contribution to keeping our product at the cutting edge of technology and research. What does a Research Engineer (m/f/d) actually do at Smartlane? We asked Maximiliane what her day-to-day work is like, what makes her job special and what she particularly likes about Smartlane as an employer.
How would you describe Smartlane as an employer?
Maximiliane: At Smartlane, we have a familiar but international working atmosphere that offers a lot of flexibility. My colleagues are all highly motivated and committed and always have an open ear for questions, suggestions and ideas. We have flat hierarchies and relevant information from the different areas is communicated very openly. There are also regular activities outside of work, which allows you to get to know your colleagues well in private.
What makes your job special?
Maximiliane: The interface with research allows me to develop new technologies and experiment a lot. For me, it is exciting to implement methods from science in a practical way. Since we mainly deal with new, innovative topics, I learn new things every day and constantly develop myself further.
What does a typical working day as a “Research Engineer” look like?
Maximiliane: As a Research Engineer, I research new technologies and therefore spend a lot of time implementing and testing prototypes. I am constantly in contact with my colleagues to exchange ideas and implementation possibilities. We work closely with our research partners to test prototypes in practice and integrate relevant features.
How do you create a balance between work and free time?
Maximiliane: At Smartlane I am very flexible when and where I work. I can organize my working hours flexibly and have the opportunity to work from home or in the office at any time. This helps me to plan my day so that I have enough time for family, friends and hobbies. Smartlane also offers Workation, so I can escape the stress of everyday life and can work from beautiful places that I love to travel to.
To what extent does your work at Smartlane challenge you and advance your personal development?
Maximiliane: The exciting thing about my work is that there are new challenges for me every day. Every client works differently and has specific requirements that we want to implement. Especially when developing prototypes, there is no solution “out-of-the-box”, but you can develop and implement your own ideas. This means that I can always develop personally. My colleagues are experts in their field, so I can learn a lot from them. Smartlane also supports me in my personal development with further training that I can choose freely.
What qualities and skills would your future team members need for the position of Research Engineer?
Maximiliane: As a Research Engineer, you look for new solutions every day in order to implement customer requirements in the best possible way. When developing ideas and implementing them, we work closely together as a team, which is why teamwork is very important. You should also be open to developing and trying out new ideas. The readiness and willingness to learn new things is essential for this.
